I post this because I wanna! But also, because the movie gave me a lot to think about.

I am pretty sure there aren't any actual spoilers, but it does help to see the movie, I think. Feel free to read on regardless!

These are basic thoughts I had on the movie, really, and a lot of them will make FFXI nerds chuckle.

This movie got a lot of hype, but just today I had heard that critics gave it a bad review. Mostly because it didn't follow history very well...

Well, considering it's based off a goddamned GRAPHIC NOVEL/COMIC, I think it's pretty fuckin' good. I like movies of all kinds, I like immersing myself into the world, and unless it's HORRIBLE acting, I enojoy most movies I see. Goes double for 300. Pretty colors, pretty people, good acting, good scenes. If you had thought it looked cheesy and there were too many people yelling about Sparta, well, it IS a war movie and the yelling imo, is ample. You don't give your troops a nice little talking to, you yell at them to get them pumped. You don't instill fear into other men by serenading them, you scream at them. :p

1) If you've ever read the Terry Goodkind book series called "Sword of Truth" I think you will notice a lot of similarities.

The tyrant in both, basically gives the King/Richard the same options. Of course, they both realize that to give in would be worse for their people as slavery is not an option compared to being free. The cost may be great to stand for freedom, but more costly to give in.

Also, nifty that the tyrant happens to be a 7 foot black man, with black eyes, 75% naked all the time, commanding a large force of which seems hopeless. :3


The movie is also beautifully choreographed and there were multiple instances where I thought that they were doing the "dance of death" as told in the Sword-Truth series.

4) All spartans except for one are, of course, Warriors.

The exception I speak of, is of course the pansy-council member who is an lolDRG. (You'll know him when you first see him. He introduces the Persian messenger.)

6) Hot chicks + hot chicks/bedding - clothes x more hot chicks = I think I should be gay?

If I can think of more, I'll pose. ATM, I'm tired and those are the best ones I can think of.

BTW, now that I think about I am not 100% sure Jagang was black.

But if anyone knows for sure, please let me know. I think I was told that he was... if I can find proof, I'll come back.

FYI my roomate has and has read all the terry goodkind books and he said he never thought of Jagnag as a black man, and what i read on Wiki says he was just a 5'11 Muscular man.

I got the info from the person who inroduced me to the series, so I just took his word for it. But yea, I can't find any truth to it, so I won't say I am accurate in that. Should go reread those, it's been a while.
