Maybe I'll actually vote this time. How do Primary's and all that shit work? Like why are those the candidates for the D and R tickets? Do we, the citezens, have any control over that? Or is that shit just money-driven like the rest of America?

I'm actually asking, I'm completely inept when it comes to politics

dont think my list is something official. i just named a few people. primaries are where each party picks its supposed best candidate. we the citizens seem pretty powerless over who has a legitimate chance at running the executive office. yea it's very money driven. it's a disgusting process. i skipped voting the last 2 presidential races, but i registered this time. i feel like bush somehow lived up to his expectations of being extremely detrimental, and i don't want to sit by and let a tard win without casting a vote for someone else, but i don't think gingrich, romney, or brownback (brokeback?) stand a chance anyway.

Primaries determine who gets the party nomination. Traditionally the first two primaries have been new hampshire and iowa, however because of rampant "frontloading" (states moving their primaries up to gain more media coverage) it's now Iowa, Nevada then New Hampshire. The candidate field is unofficially narrowed to one (the overwhelming winner of the primaries) and the candidate is officially announced at the Party National Convention in August. Until about the mid-20th century, the "delegates" at the convention would often vote for different people and one wouldn't know who the candidate was until the votes were cast. Now, it's almost always sewn up, which makes for a VERY long general election season (it used to be august-november, now it's like april/may-november). Delegates are party faithful from states as well as V.I.P members of the party (Hilary was a 'super-delegate' in 04, meaning she had more power or something. Super-delegates are only found in the Democratic party).

That's a really fast shitty explanation because im about to play another match of warcraft 3 but if you need clarification just ask
