Doctor finds spiders in ear of boy with earache
5/5/2007, 8:24 p.m. PDT
The Associated Press

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — A 9-year-old boy who complained of an earache was a little surprised when the doctor told him that a pair of spiders had tried to make a home out of him.

"They were walking on my eardrums," said Jesse Courtney.

One of the spiders was still alive after the doctor flushed the fourth-grader's left ear canal.

His mother, Diane Courtney, said her son insisted he kept hearing a faint popping in his ear — "like Rice Krispies" — before the earache sent them to the doctor.

Dr. David Irvine said it looked like the boy had something in his ear when he examined him, but he could not immediately identify it. So he irrigated the ear, and the first spider came out, dead. The other spider took a second dousing before it emerged, still alive. Both were about the size of a pencil eraser.

Irvine said it was a first for him as a physician. "It was the only time I ever pulled out an invertebrate," he said.

Jesse was given the spiders — now both dead — as a souvenir. He has taken them to school and his mother has taken them to work.

"It was real interesting, 'cause, two spiders in my ear — what next?" Jesse said.

Im not too worried about this myself, but its bloody creepy to even think about. The kid could hear popping in his ear as the spiders were probably walking around on his ear drum.
WTF thats nasty. Im a freak about people touching my ears. The idea of some bug living in one makes me sick.

That's nasty. Luckily all the bugs around my neighborhood are prehistoric junglemonsters, so they wouldn't fit in my ears.

That's almost as nasty as that episode of family guy with the ear sex.

Once you go black, you go deaf.

lol!

This is pretty creepy. I would flip the f' out if the doctor found ANY type of bug in my ear. I have lots of brown spiders and AZ bark scorpions at my house :( I wouldn't be too happy with a baby bark scorpion in my ear lol...I'd probably end up very sick or dead.

Mowing the lawn the other day I saw a king size grasshopper...with wings and a bright red head. Almost called it quits for this year's yardwork right there. My sister's yard has all these crazyass psuedo-spiders with antennae, fucking disgusting, they look like they can leap a mile.

Inside my house during summer we get these horrendous cricket/grasshopper things that are called Maybugs (according to this lady at the home depot). They're like ninja crickets, I just can't stand them. Here's the kicker: they come back for their dead.

Hot Shot is crap by the way, Black Flag destroys it.
