I hope I have that much fun when I get older lmao!
Only the following songs from the new Linkin Park album even got my attention as anything deserving of the title "buzzworthy." From the 30 seconds of Itunes samples here is my short review based upon 1st listen. The one with * I actually like. The ** is my pick of "has potential to becoming the next single." I didn't buy the album and I doubt I will. My main problem is nothing sounds innovative here and everything sounds incredibly emulated. And yes, I own a lot of the other LP albums. LP to do a move like this may cause other listeners to backlash them as "sell-outs." Although this was an experimental move to work with legendary producer Rick Rubin, I expected more, much more and much better. I wanted LP on steroids and they have given me "another rock band."
Track 1: ooh an instrumental progression...whooptie fucking doo!
Track 2: Given Up - vintage LP, full of screaming lyrics...nothing new, I've heard 4-5 other Linkin Park songs like this no matter what the lyrics are.
**Track 3: Leave Out All the Rest - sounds familiar, like another band almost could have done this one. However I totally see this as a single since "What I've Done" was the 1st single. It has that summer-single feel to it. I can see the whole MTV TRL crowd loving this song and singing it around a fucking bonfire. I don't like it either.
Track 4: Bleed It Out - annoying, just annoying...there is music, and there's noise...this is noise.
**, *Track 5: Shadow of the Day - smooth, string arrangements O.o, has
potential, pretty good song. Could be a single. Everything just sounds sonically good here. It's not a hard song or even really crazy sounding, but it sounds more natural and smoother than many on the album. Many other songs sound almost like they were forced-out. This one just sort of rides. Sounds like a classic song but I think another band could have done this.
Track 6: What I've Done - Did not impress me, even as a single
*Track 7: Hands Held High - damn Iraq war raps catering to the masses, however I like the truth in it...good job Shinoda
*Track 8: No More Sorrow (metal sounding....nice.), a song like this on the Linkin Park album shows the potential of what Minutes to Midnight could have been. This one was a success. This song has balls!
Track 9: Valentine's Day - Too emo-sounding for me
Track 10: In Between - sounds honest, but overproduced, I'm unsure if this is good because I hear only the entire hook, but it has promise, Shinoda is actually singing on the whole thing. Not enough for a * though. At least not until I hear the whole thing one day :P
Track 11: In Pieces - "Roxanne, you don't have to turn on the red light." No Linkin Park, just no. LP should never have done this reggae vibe shit, it's not them and anyone can see through it.
Track 12: The Little Things Give You Away - "Hey we sound a bit like Radiohead and all deep and stuff. We have a long ass song at the end of the album which will probably build up, crescendo and have solos and make you forget just how bad the other songs were on the album until it repeats in your Ipod or minidisc player. Sometimes for some artists this works, not in this case.
- so out of 12 songs I only like maybe 2-3. Well I guess the same can be said for other albums. Oh well, still not buying it, not even the 99 cent singles.
