I figure I might need one of these sometime soon. I have no idea what to look for, and I was under the impress I'd be able to afford a new one, but that was crushed a few weeks ago.

What kind of cars do you think would be good to get to start? I'm kinda looking for a 4-door, probably 4-cyl, maybe 6.

I've been looking at Jettas and Neons, but I'll take most suggestions.

Neons are pieces of shit. Do not buy a Neon.

If you want a cheap reliable 4 door get a honda. If you are a little guy you can buy a brand new Honda Fit (they are 4 door) for $13,000. They are slow as hell but they get great gas mileage...and I like the way they look lol. No way in hell I'd fit in one. Clever name...fit.

Otherwise buy a used Civic or Accord. There's a reason you see so many of them on the road.

Yeah posting the amount you are willing to spend would help...

I'm thinking about buying a 2007 Crewmax Toyota Tundra as a 3rd vehicle lol. I have a paid off 4wd 2000 Tacoma and a 2002 RSX Type S that's almost paid off.

Well, my dad said he would pay as much as I save towards my car. Then he was like only what I save during the summer after I started looking at Chargers.

I think I'll have 2k by the end of the summer (I was forced to go on vacation too much) and another 2k from my dad. 4k isnt a lot, but I might keep saving after that for maybe 6-8k car.

I would like to get a Charger though. The car lot next to my mom's house has an '06 used for 20k, and another dealership has an '06 for 18k. New '06 is 22k, and '07 is 20k I think. I didn't look into them too much though, so its prolly more expensive.

I also know tax, title, and fees are gonna happen also, so I'm keeping that in mind. Also, thanks for quick replies.

Thats what I've been hearing. My dad keeps complaining when I mention foreign cars though because he thinks its gonna be a hassle if it needs repaired.

Are Chevy Cobalts good? I dont know what the gas mileage is on them, but they look roomy enough on the inside.

Oh yeah, I'm 6"1' and 207 lbs; I can fit into small cars, but I'd rather have a bigger one.

My 95 Honda is still running strong. They are good for the price. Don't spend to much on a car, since they are money pits and lose resale vale faster then anything.

Foreign cars aren't a hassle to repair...unless you own a Porsche or something. Hondas are generally the easiest damn thing to work on, parts are very easy to come by, and they are reliable!

Don't get a Dodge Charger omg those are fucking gay. Unless you spend $40,000 on an SRT-8...I have some respect for those since they are fast...still gay though. A 1994 honda will be more reliable in the 100,000 mile + range than a new 2007 Charger.

I'm also looking for a car myself and since i live in FL and everything is far, i need something that will be easy on gas and has good AC, reliable and durable. I'm driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma and for some reason it guzzles, so i'm looking to get a better car for my new job. My priority list goes like this:
Honda Accord
Toyota Corolla
Honda Civic (2000-2005)
Nissan Maxima
Nissan Altima
Toyota Echo
VW Getta
VW Golf
I won't get old cars though, but since my new job will consist of driving 80% of the time, i have to get something cheap on gas and long lasting. Those are good choices as daily drivers in my opinion, some aren't expensive.

I do have a nice job as a manager but it's a roofing company and building industry in so. florida has slowed down more then expected, i get paid good but not good enough to keep up with bills made when i was making more money (due to commission and job amount). Mortgage doesn't seem to be going gown anytime soon neither is gas, so i have to look for something better. I'll still be a manager at this new job but i'll get paid more. I wasn't bragging then and i'm not bragging now just answering childishlike remarks made such as this one.

So far im loving my cobalt.

I must say the civic i had was amazing. We just sold it for 1,800 and it was a 93 with 140k miles. The basic model starts rather cheap but is bare. If you want anything good on it it will run in the 21k range new.

I also loved my VW. I had a 1.8t that had lots of electrical problems. I hear the new 2.0t is solid. Lotta engine for 20k

Another sleeper might be the Mazda 3. My sis and ex both have them.

Stay away from the Sentra and Neon. My Sentra lasted 10k miles

Gonna have to disagree with that one.

I drive a 94 Sentra that, spare a few very normal occurances, has been nothing but a good car.

It's got almost 250k miles on it, used to be my old roomates and he drove it to Texas from California.

Since I've had it, the only work I've needed to do on it are small things...a brake adjustment, replace alternator, 2 tire replacements...all at different years btw.

Sentras tend to be long-lasting cars imo, got a friend with same year and model whos had similar results as well.

I thought Kioto had a Cobalt SS for some reason...I guess that was Computer. That is a nice sports car. If I was going to own a Cobalt at all that's the only I would get (no offense I still wouldn't get it lol I respect it though).

Yeah Kioto my Tacoma sucks up gas like a mofo. It's a damn good truck though. It has 110,000 miles and drives like new. Kicks all kinds off ass crawling and climbing shit offroad too. Despite what the Jeep guys think, tacomas can hang :)

The gas thing is what's holding me back from the Tundra. I want the 5.7L one and I would daily drive it since I'm gonna turbocharge my RSX next year and keep it in the garage. I would probably get rid of the Tacoma and daily drive the Tundra...which just isn't practical.

my first car was a neon! I ended up selling it for $300 2 years later when I got an oil leak in 7 different spots. I did learn how to do lots of car stuff because it was a piece of shit, so that was a perk.

I wouldn't recommend anyone "young" buy a brand new car. Its just irresponsible. So much unplanned stuff can happen.
My bf recently bought a new 2007 honda civic. Now he's dealing with some serious unpredicted financial medical problems and it's not seeming like it was such a good idea. But I swear, I only said "I told you so" once.

I am enjoying my 2007 Civic just fine. My Pontiac was a PoS. That is all.

Yeah, buy new isnt prolly a good idea. When I was driving around at work (earlier), the guy I work with saw some special limited edition Jetta in the carlot near my house, so I might go look at that.

I think I'm gonna narrow my choices down to:

Jetta
Civic
Cobalt

Unless one of my relatives die and leaves me money or something.
