i bought headphones for my college classes because some times your in a lab while other classes are going on and you dont want to be distracted.

so i bought a pair of: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v ... 74,00.html

they are freaking huge with ported bass speakers, these headphones are freaking loud. i have to keep my 4 master volumes on 30% and windows media on 5% volume for them to not hurt my ears :O

thing is they are so huge but so freaking light, like less then 1.5lbs and very comfortable

they dont have they awesomest bass because the loud sound eclipses the bass but geez i got these for free cause pioneer wouldnt let me buy them to begin with :p

i think they are easily the largest headphones at my school

I looked for a headset like that, i wanted an old 80's style steel and rubber headset for PC. lol
But i went with a Logitech USB and it works great albeit falls off my head sometimes.

I'm not sure exactly what all of the applications you're mostly using your phones for but...

I like these:

http://bssc.sel.sony.com/BroadcastandBu ... l?id=52568

you can find them usually for around $90.00 and for the price they rival a ton of the more expensive sets.

This is the like the hybrid:

My precious:

There are other ultrasone products as well but I found these to be some of the best. In all reality, unless your ears are finely tuned to where you can dtect a 1db cut in a mix or you're a true audiophile and you just feel in your heart you need these, the money isn't worth it for these when you can spend a few hundred less for the sonys.

For DJs:

Whoa, the ones on http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=422040

Those are the same ones I use when I'm playing keyboard/piano.

They're awesome, I've used em for a long time.

from the reviews i see about these phones, they are very fragile at the pivot points, but have unmatched bass

I mentioned those, they're about $159.00 but I'm sure you could find them for $125 somewhere.

I'm not a DJ but I know DJs (or good DJs) usually go through a set of phones pretty often because they break 'em, drop 'em in transport, get fed up with them etc. The pivots are fairly fragile on all DJ phones but I haven't heard about that review on the bass. I'll have to tell my friends about that and see if its true.

Trust me the Sony phones I recommended are probably your best bet unless someone mentions some I've never even heard about.

And yea Viv, the 7509 HD phones, though midrange in price, blow away about every other set out there. Plus they're pretty comfy.

Ask them what kind of studio monitor headphones they like and get back to me, I'm curious what they're using.

Since after all this is a post about headphones...not how many instruments I can and can't play. ;p
