Note the first reply from tazirai

tazirai wrote:
Personally Ive played for 2years.. but never noticed botting until maybe 3 months after NA release. It was probably in for awhile, but it never influenced my gameplay in a way for me to scream bot.

Since alot of the NA base comes from games where botting is common , they just picked up on it in FFXI early. But honestly I dont think botting has influenced my gameplay much at all.

Since I dont camp HNM or many NM's it doesnt really bother me.

It all started with the latency conspiracy, then progresed to all out botting.

Comments like this piss me the F off. I cant even reply to it since tazirai is a mod and locked the thread.

So Im going to vent here. As most people know I mod the FFXI VN forums. The highest traffic forums for FFXI. So much traffic that two reps from Squaresoft read those forums also.

Whats my point? well, my point is that all the bot programs people started to use were Japanese. I know because I was deleting threads all the time were someone linked to japanese sites. Im not saying all Japanese people cheat, cause that would be untrue. What I am saying is that the tools were there long before NA players came along. When I started retail back in november there were just as many people sitting and fishing 24/7. The last few months its really picked up, I blame that on IGE not English players. NA players have their own bots now, but, to place blame squarly on NA players is just plan sad.

So this is why it pisses me off. Because I cant stand when people act like Japanese people are so much more moral than North Americans. Because they arn't; they have just as many pricks and just as many really nice people. I love Aphex, I hate Gana. I love Kayne, I hate Pirotess. Its the same thing. They are just normal players, they dont have some high ethical value that puts them on a pedistal above us. They are no different from us.

Sure there are more people botting now, but thats because we now have NA and JPN people botting(and IGE).

Dont get me wrong I dont wanna come off as some racist, Im just really hate people people lable NA players as Cheaters or that NA players whine about lag and bots as a way to make up for "us being inferiour" as tazirai implied with the last line.

Hot damn stupid and uninformed people like tazirai bother me.

this pisses me off as well. The worst is when people in your party talk about , hey theres a jpn party, we cant steal their stuff because they wouldnt. ITS HONORABLE. we're not dealing with the f'ing samuris of like 300 years ago .. its just a diff area and race of the world. Same attidtudes and assholes.

AND IMO, Id much rather have 3 seconds to claim a mob before the jpn then bots. no room to bitch, especiually when they started it anyway.

I basically was in the botting scene for a while.

We have NOTHING on par with what JPN have. No packet sniffers, timers etc. The *best* we have is a small program that quick scans your files and checks if they correspond to a target and provokes it. Ever see someones head looking around vigorously? Tab-Botter.

Disclaimer: I admire almost everything about Japan irl

I always thought the whole mentality behind "Let's be courteous to the Japanese players" was so the few of CKD who did participate in JP events could continue doing so and reap the benefits of gil and items. It was those certain people that were most outspoken about treating JP with the courtesy with which we wished they treated us. My opinion was that, from my experience, since Japanese players in FFXI are overwhelmingly top of the line grade-A rude elitist racists, they can take courtesy and shove it. They basically already have.

The Japanese mindset is basically that NA invaded their game, and I don't necessarily blame them for thinking that way. I don't know why square-enix didnt have the foresight to make seperate servers.

That reply irritated me too. Asians bleed red too. Well except me, I bleed an orangey colour.

I do not hold any culture or nationality in higher regard, nor do I give them special treatment. I'm sure this goes for most people out there - I treat people how they treat me. If you're an asshole, I'll be an asshole. If you're nice, I'm nice. I expect the same on my end - if I'm an asshole or if I'm nice, I'll expect to be served the same respective course.

It's funny how some people hold other 'cultures' in higher regard then others. It is a romantic dream of theirs that they do not want shattered no matter how much you try to sledge hammer some logical sense into their concrete hard skulls. Being born as a Japanese, or 'Asian' (or any other 'race') does not make you a polite considerate human being, being raised properly by responsible parents makes you a polite, considerate and compassionate human being (hopefully anyway) .

People are people. Just as there are plenty of courteous, intelligent and amazing people to be found in other cultures, there are just as many idiotic, racist and fucktard bigots to be found that you want to stab with pointy sharp objects until they stop breathing. No one culture is superior then the other in 'their morals'.[/list]

I think the main thing is, is that the focus isn't JPN vs NA.

It is Veteran vs Newbie. I'm not saying NA players are newbies, but compared to the JPN players that are still playing the game, clearly we don't have the experience they do.

What does this mean exactly? It means that the only JPN players that still stick around will probably be the dicks like Gana that scared off the rest of the JPN players, and just the select few that are still sticking around.

I.E. Look at the number of NA players that have quit after one year, I'm sure the same situation has occurred with JPN at the time of NA release.

As the time goes on, and more ppl reach endgame, it will just be a matter of survival, and it seems that the more of a cutthroat asshole you are, the better your chances. (Those that get frustrated just quit the game.)

The Japanese vs NA language barrier just makes it easier to be veteran elitists. I'm sure if there was PvP, there would have been tons of JPN LSes just hunting down all NA players just to keep them down.
The nature of MMORPG is to just be better than the other players on the server, so they do whatever they can to reach that goal.

And I think another thing to keep in mind is that GMs are probably only good for preventing ppl from shouting curses 24/7, and to move you incase you are stuck in a map bug or something.

This hatred of veteran vs newbie occurs in all games, I see it all the time in FPS, RPGs, RTSes, you name it....
The whole point of multiplayer gaming is just to try and be better than the other player. (How you go about doing this, is up to the you)

That's the most ignorant, fucking statement i've ever heard. He should just quit the game so he'll never join an HNM LS and experiance the same problems, i garentee he'll say diffrent..

My favorite FFXIOnline thread ever.

I read this thread and immediately thought of the thread I just linked. Someone bumped up the 2-month old thread to top so I didn't have to search for it haha.

I remember reading that thread.

Ive posted on that bord for a long time. Well over a year now. Since like.... I think about last june. Anyway tazirai has always drove me crazy. Shes a grade A snob and the queen of Fakanese players, well, her and Nerv. Tazirai love to comment on how JPN dont bot or cheat or do anything bad for HNMs yet, she openly admits she hates camping HNMs and never does it. She also goes on about how she never heard of lag problems until NA players started...

hot mother of mary, how can anyone be so anoying.

She doesn't point ifingers, yet she claims in this very same thread:

alot of small events lead to one big one.
The big event led to me feeling that sometimes I wish FFXI never became so popular and that EQ and the other MO's woulda killed it .
Stateside atleast.

That pisses me off a lot. She doesn't want it turned into a flame thread yet she can openly say how much we suck and then lock the thread so we dont have the power to defend ourselves?

honestly, what dinav said is totally true

the japanese have amazing bots compared to what the NA have

some of the japanese fish bots even zone every hour and come back to the exact spot and fish some more... wth?

i know nothing about computers but wouldn't that bot have to be pretty complex?

Perhaps this is off-topic but felt like i should voice this out seeing as this quote was the only avenue to do so. I remember when i started the game and was ultra-noob about everything, from painfully trying to move my character with the mouse to dancing around mobs thinking i would evade better, to getting closer upon sword swing for critical hits ... yea, i did that stuff ; ;...

I remember also thinking that the Japanese were godly at that lvl. A lot of it had to do with the fact that i encountered the pleasant types that would help me out. But now as a higher lvl player and having almost a year under my belt, prolly 8 months now been playing, i am totally ashamed that i used to think that way. Ashamed in that i actually thought JP player > NA player. Boy, was i wrong! :|

I mean, yea JP pts rock at lower lvls, but i have pt'ed with PLENTY of horrible JP players as well. And, that whole JP-only shit is pathetic imho. exp is about exp and some socialization ... but exp pts dont mean grab the cocktail and talk about the new paint-job u did on ur house. My buddy in game just told me he was invited to JP pt, said "hello" and was kicked off the team. No apology, "no im sorry my mistake". just booted. I been in many situations where a pt was under development and despite some JP player being the only person of thier lvl seeking would refuse NA invites despite them wanting exp. I've pt'ed with jp in an NA pt, but very often they are far and few in between and never understood why they are stubborn to accept NA invites even tho that team in question has the common goal of attaining exp.

Also, in my experience, i've noticed that NA players really bend over backwards sometimes to show respect toward JPs players. I wish i can name names but i been in situations where i did something *wrong* and was *recommended* that i apologize repeatedly so that some JP could understand. Or, once i was told by this NA player that i shouldnt use the "lmao" term b/c its disrespectful in JP. Not to mention, everything i said in that pt i was being critiqued by that same person meanwhile they were gaying it up with thier fakanese "desu yorosiku wwwzz~~~~ ^^;; ^^;." I mean wtf?????
In hindsight, cause we all know hindsight is 20/20, that was absurd. i mean yes, maybe i might messed up and made bad decisions ( if u wanna call them that) but to now have to go out of my way by using the auto-translate function several times to express the same "im sorry i apologize" is just quite absurd. i would never go beyond one/two with a NA player saying "im sorry" so why overdo it with a JP? Because they are more honorable??? lame

Another thing I've noticed is that NA go out their way to befriend JP but hardly do i ever see the converse. I wish some NA went out their way to befriend fellow NA the way some ppl have with the JP @@''.

All-in-all, i guess the point of me saying this is that everything i used to think about JP was hype. About this cultural chiveraly and respect/ great players who are honorable....... PFFFFFFFFT. They have the same creeps, jerks, beautiful, and friendly people that the NA have .... and fundamentally it's b/c in the end we are ALL human beings with our own unique personalities.

Oh, and dont get me started on JP whms who walk over corpses never offering Raises, despite sending a /tell but continue to walk on by. That is just flat out RUDE... :x :x :x

The thing is Crimson, I would expect most JPN players to be better then most ENG players during that period (NA launch). The majority of them had the game longer, so it's natural to expect their player base to be much better then our player base. There was nothing wrong in to say the average JPN player > ENG player early in October, November and December (even late January) in terms of gameplay knowledge and experience. We were all newbies at the time, learning the effects of foods, struggling to make ends meet in the game, learning skillchains, elemental weaknesses, what did and did not link. We were struggling to make ends meet in the game.

In the rare instances I leveled with JPN players in the early months (I was in a static of Torontonians until mid 50's), I would expect them to be better then the average NA player, I had higher expectations - not because they are JPN but because their player base had access to the game longer. The fact of the matter was, in the first 3 or so months after NA launch, the average JPN player was better then the average NA player, but this was not because they are JPN (or JPN innate player skill > NA innate player skill) but because of their exposure to the game (they had more time to learn and hopefully master gameplay mechanics, learn game the geography, save up gil for equipment, etc).

I would hold the same expectations for the small NA player base who imported the game long before NA release. If I was a ps2 player, I would hold the same expectation from most PC players who started at NA launch or before Christmas. I would those who played longer then I have to be much better then me, especially if I had just started out.

I started the game at about end of Feburary beginning of March, not entirely sure when but it was around that time period. There were many PC NA players at that time who were lvl 75 such as Kayne, Limitation, Hccmike, Dionil, and such...

Anyway, I understand your point but a lot of what I wrote also involved me having this perspectve of JP having a graceful decorum of mannerisms and respect. Not entirely sure how that came to be... but I'm glad i got over that haha \:D/
