Oh well, I kinda saw it coming, you can easily tell when someone isn't having the fun they used to. It's hard to describe how, but you notice it. Admittedly a lot of the fun died off with the old LS, since it was full of people who played on our schedules. Sadly it wasn't really full of the kind of hardcore people you needed to reach end-game.
Thats not to say I don't have fun now, I still enjoy the game, it does kinda suck that I literally can't do anything during the day. Levelling in FFXI isn't fun, to put it simply. Reaching a new level, obtaining new items, new abilities etc is fun, sure. But the actual process of pulling and killing mob after mob after mob after mob just isn't. Which is why I don't level a second job, it wasn't entirely fun the first time. :P
I love the epic battles of end-game in FFXI, but they are truely few and far between, mostly caused by the JP monopoly on most of them, but thats another story. The timezone thing became a big issue at high level, the lack of "hardcore" people at our kinda time, coupled with my lack of wanting to do something that I
can do during my own time (not much that's fun) means I spend 2PM-10PM staring at a Moogle, and then til 3AM doing something fun, some nights anyway.
If I were to eventually quit, it would be because the late-nights are screwing my education up, which it may do eventually. And if I were to cut the late-nights out of FFXI, i'd be cutting out all the fun with it, heh.
This is my first MMO, admitedly. I have no idea what the "end-game" in all those other MMOs is like, I hear of people playing Ultima Online for like 7 years and wonder how the hell they do it, what keeps them going? Do the devs just keep adding more stuff? Are people hanging around just for their friends/guild? Or is there something there that you can actually do every day for 7 years???
As for WoW... I'm still not so sure. It was kinda fun to run around, try something new, etc, but I'm not so sure yet how long it would last me personally. And I don't want to waste everything I've done here in favour of playing WoW for a few months and getting completely bored of it quickly. You can apparently max out your character level very very fast, surely after that all there is left to do is roll out a new character?
Btw Reg, get Promyvion done before you leave dammit, you've not even been to Tavnazia yet. Waste of buying an expansion. :P (Btw, CoP would be a LOT more fun if not for this level cap shit they added to all the missions. It's not even just capped BCs, its completely capped zones, lol.)
Oh... and you still owe me 20k.

Just to finish off, here is a completely preserved picture of mine of Reg in South Gustaberg on his very first day back in November 2003 as a Lv1 WAR with no sub:
PS: No you don't really owe me 20k, I just had to slip something like that in somewhere. :P
