why can merry christmas be rephrased as "merry xmas?"


where did this xmas come from?

It came from people who celebrate the holiday, but dont want it to be offensive to non-christian religions, thus they refer to it as X-Mas, leaving out the "Christ" half of the holiday name...kinda stupid if you ask me, I hate Politically Correct crap.

In hebrew er something the name "jesus" looks like the letter X.

so X=Christ

No, in Hebrew there's a symbol that refers to "Christ" and it looks like an x which is why they use xmas.

i always thought it was, X looks like a Cross, Christ died on a Cross, therefore X can substitute Christ in the word Christmas.

i dont think it has anything to do with the cross. christmas is the birth and not the death.
