Ive seen a parse log of a pt with 2 rngs and 1 drg. The drg alone beat the lowest rng and if you include his wyvren he beat the highest dmg rng. So drgs dont suck like ppl say. It all depends on the player and his gear

i think if you play on the fact that your tarutaru, you'll get more party invites just based on the fact that you are a taru melee.. and people like seeing us beat on things that are the same size as us.

I think alot of the problem with drg was that when FFXI launched in NA everyone and their mother was a drg and people really got sick of them. They really aren't that bad.

From a tank perspective, when tanking Beastmen, the DRG beastmen always hit me the hardest out of all the other Beastmen type in the area, such as DRK, MNK, etc.

As far as I know, this holds true to player Dragoons too, they have standard STR and attacks comparable to any similarly equipped melee.

However, as far as I'm aware, the reason "DRG suck", is because DRG weaponskills suck. Pentathrust is nifty when they get it (it rapes Crawlers) but it very quickly tapers off too as exp parties move on to Crabs and things. And after that it mostly all goes downhill too. They don't have WS comparable to Spinning Slash, Cross Reaper, Sidewinder, Shark Bite, Asuran Fists, etc.

That's the main problem with DRG as far as I have been able to see. Of course, my DRG is level 1, so you can ignore most everything I've said. :P

I don't know why players always use a phaser as a point of reference for Damage output. Unlike normal DDs(Drk, Drg, Sam, and etc.), Rngs and Blms cannot attack to their full potenial... unless they want to die. lol *Ask Mikey ;;

Just don't ever fight Goblins or Damselflys and you'll be fine.

People only look at big number when they compare job (ie: Blm 1400dmg on MB, Drk's WS on soul eater).

Drg have one of the best DoT in this game, especially when you add their wyvern's damage

Dragoon's are good DD. But like Ket said WS are very poor. I think the most i ever did with Wheeling Thrust was 680 ish. That being said Youll notice at around lvl 70 you tp gain will get insane with war sub. youll be like a mini Samuri. 8) But all in all would i say hey go right ahead and play DRG? No. Cause unless you got friends in high place s you aint gettin off the lfg line ><. GL

Dragoon expensive items:
Sniper Rings (500k each, level 40)
Scorpion Harness (4.7 million, level 57. although it is rare to see someone equip this when they ding 57. most dont get one until level 75)

and now, Food is actually costly. good accuracy food is at 30k per stack now so it can definitely eat up your cash quickly. but it will help you level faster so theres a tradeoff.

and for the record, DRG does amazing damage, just no 1-shot big numbers. The Wyvern is the most damaging 2 hour in the game, over time, and provided the wyvern stays alive. when alive it more than makes up for a lack of a super-powerful WS.

DRG looks neat to play as. But what role do they have? Only use that makes them stand out are the jumps to erase hate. They have no place in HNM, BCNM, and junk like that. In combination with their wyvern in exp PT they rival most other good DD. But end-game, bleh. You'll see most ex-DRG playing RNG now. Or NIN. Certain jobs get bad reps and it makes it hard to get a PT when playing as one of them. I personally like DRG, just ask Kane. Haha. Even though he hates me for making him stick to it. :O

Drgs are very good during certain points in the game. A well equipped drg is probably the best dmg dealer from lvl 1-60, against non-AoE enemies. It's a very fun job to play during this lvl range.

But like Ket said, the main problem is that most jobs get very good weapon skills around lvl 55-60 (sidewinder, slug shot, rampage, guillitine, dancing edge, howling fist, etc.), and drg gets skewer, which is pretty sucky compared to every one else. Also, war/sam/drk get access to the haubergeon at lvl 59 and most drgs dont have enough money for a scorp harness, so equipment gimpage at that time is an issue. Add in the fact that drgs get their last useful ability at lvl 50, and this makes for a long road from the late 50s to 75, which is more than half the game.

That being said I only took drg/war up to lvl 63, so I don't know about the usefulness of drg/mage in an exp party. I've noticed a trend of drg/whms in exp parties lately. I guess they could take the role of a third mage job in certain party setups, as a back-up healer. Like I could see rdm + brd + drg/whm with a ninja tank, or whm + brd + drg/whm with a pld tank.

Bottom line is that drgs have a bad rep, despite whatever the truth may be. Be prepared to make alot of parties, as you will have to prove most ppl wrong.

On my side of the DRG story, being THF and all, i never had any problems with DRG. The dmg was never too bad, my only complain is that everytime i ran behind it, the stupid flying blue thing stood in my way.

But, then again, i had a taru DRG exp'in at upper 60's (LV67-69) that was just amazing. Made up for all the gimpness.

It's very true that most DRKs are played by 12 y/o dumb asses who thnink they're hot shit.
If you can't find groups as DRG, try forming your own groups or even a perma pt.

I usually watch tv and leave ffxi running on my pc. As a NIN, I would get tells from party leaders for exp groups. If I run a search on the party leader and find out that he/she is DRG, I just proceed to watch tv

Drg is WAY under-estimated, that's all there is to it. I'm not sure where all these rumors came from or why people don't like them to begin with. Drg are like mnk, they deal damage over time, people only really notice big numbers. Like when a drk does a 1k+ Spinning Slash and 1k+ light but the drg opened the SC with a 200 wheeling thrust.

What they don't pay attention to is how much damage they do per regular hit, the damage of their wyvern, AND the lower delay of polearm versus other two handed weapons.
