i was at school reading a new copy of AGP (paintball mag) and a teacher was looking over my shoulder and asked what i was dong and i said reading. She was like you can’t read "GUN" Magazines and i was like i am reading a sports magazine. And she e-mailed the schools Discipline dude and in the middle of class he walks in and says "COME WITH ME" and i go. i walk out the door and 4 cops where out there and 2 of them about to pull a gun on me and i almost pissed my pants. Then i was asked to turn to the wall and i was frisked. i was like WTF are you guys doing.... and the cop snatched my back pack and searched it. Then i asked what are you looking for and the cop said a "GUN MAGAZINE (a bullet magazine)" I WAS WTF” IT is F***ing reading material. Then they were like we are sorry….. WTF

sorry if it is a bit confusing I am VERY tired.

Yeah wtf, cops.

Is that really needed for a kid reading a paintball MAGAZINE? Kids in our school bring knives all the time and I wouldn't be suprised if some brought guns.

It truly is completely amazing how paranoid much of the world has become. Not just due to terrorism or anything of that sort... Paranoid about everything.

And schools are where you see it all come to a head.

The worst part about it, is that it often isn't the kids' faults. It's the parents. Note that I am not using an absolute here, I am not trying to arbitrarily pass off blame on parents.

The sane parents are fine. It's the insane ones, the 5% or so, that cause the problems, the complete control freaks, the ones who, for lack of a better word, spazz out constantly over even the slightest hint of a controversial subject.

These sort of parents, get used to having iron-fisted control over their children at home. Control over what they watch, who they see, what they read, what they do. And then their child goes off to school, and, much to their dismay, guess what?

They don't have direct control over their kids anymore.

Now, a sane person would accept this. They're at school, for heaven's sake, surrounded by other adults. Surely SOMEONE in the sea of faculty and staff there must know how to deal with children. They ARE trained for that, after all.

And therein lies the problem. You see, to the insane parents, there are two problems with a school environment. First is that they don't place even the slightest degree of trust in their kids. Trust my child to show restraint, they say? Are you fucking nuts? My child can't control anything he or she does. They are completely unworthy of any trust whatsoever!

That's where problem #1 begins. If you run your child's life, if you control every single aspect of everything they do, you stifle them. So is it any surprise that they might go a little overboard when they get outside the parents' sphere of influence?

And this begins problem #2. The insane parents don't trust the teachers. These chronically underpaid and overworked people, almost none of whom would have a job teaching if they didn't WANT to be there, if they didn't WANT and LOVE to teach. But these parents don't trust the teachers to do their jobs. Not for any logical reason, either... simply because they're not in control.

Lack of control equals fear. And what do these parents do out of fear? They prosecute these teachers for not exercising the "proper" control over their children. They prosecute them for almost anything.

5% of the parents cause 95% of the problems.

And thus begins the final problem. The teachers, themselves, become paranoid. Out of fear of losing a job that already barely makes ends meet, the teachers start to prosecute the kids for anything that could even SLIGHTLY be construed as provacative or contraversial.

Freedom of Speech in school? Hardly. The Bill of Rights is long, long gone on school grounds.

We live in an age where you can be arrested for writing an essay which contains the word 'murder'. You could be discussing Tess of the D'Urbervilles for all they care. You mentioned murder, you must be a psychotic raving lunatic!

And thus ends my rant.

you know.............after reading your post I thought it extreme.....but then I started thinking. You were reading a gun "magazine" this much is true. However I bet the teacher called and said you had a gun MAGAZINE (AKA a clip of ammo for storing bullets)." So the translation was misconstrued during the teacher's phone call and that was seriously why you were probably treated so harshly.

I've had lots of friends had things like this happen, and normally they weren't doing anything remotely wrong. Like one friend's 5 year old little boy was banned from kindergarten for 2 weeks b/c he brought a G.I. Joe to school. G.I. Joe promotes violence. One girl came to school wearing a shirt from a local brewery, she's worn it many times before, and the sub freaked on her. Told her to take it off. Poor quiet Mindy was like, "Ms. Penney, I don't have another shirt to put on, this one has always been ok before." So she was sent home for 'verbally assulting a teacher'.(I don't think that one counts though, that sub was mental and the kicked her from the board)
Glad I'm not in school anymore.
