I hit level 73 yesterday (I was 100 tnl and had to solo stuff in CN for it), and it seemed like a no brainer to me to go out and spend 500,000 gil on a Koenig Shield right away. Losing nothing my old shield had, and gaining +5 VIT.

What I want to know, is how much priority should i put into the Adaman gear? Am I expected to have this now? After the shield I'm down to about 100k left now.

I noticed Peejo and Emerlin have it, but Shiloh doesn't. (When I've seen them as far as i can remember anyway.) I also noticed Mirza went and bought the entire set on the AH in one day, and was 72 last I saw him, so I guess he dinged and bought all of it right away!

So.. Am I gimped? Should I be buying this stuff asap before i show my face in an exp party again, or should I not be bothering until 75? What order should it be bought (assuming i have to)?

Tbh, I quite like the +10 Shield Skill from my AF Boots, the DEX and AGI (which the Adman seems to drain a bunch of) are nice from Hands/Legs too...

I need opinions, the set is around 2+ million gil, gonna be a LONG time in ZiTah... (It kinda sucks now though, I used to go before someone obviously blabbed about it, being there on your OWN rocked.)

one of the things i noticed is that gear peejo and emerlin are wearing adds more +enmity which means more focus on pld instead of the mages. While emerlin wears that he does a better overall job of keeping the hate focused on him rather than me

Congratulations on 73 :)

PLD AF was the best AF since every pld can wear it until they switch to Koenig/Crimson for HNM. There was nothing better than PLD AF for a PLD.

However, the Adaman came out, it is expensive, but in exchange, it's worth it. When I bought mine, they were 4 millions+ all together. It took Kailyn and I 2 weeks to get the full set.

Here's a compairson of the stats:
Gallant: DEF135 HP73 VIT4 MND/AGI/DEX3 Enmity8
Adaman: DEF158 HP27 MP30 VIT14 MND4 Enmity11 Evasion-4 AGI-2 INT-1

PLD has low evasion as it is, so losing another 4 won't break you. AGI - being a hume, even with -2, I still have more AGI than an elvaan pld with 2 drone earrings. So, not a problem there. INT.... you tell me :P

However, what do you gain by switch over?
22 DEF, 10VIT and 3 Enmity. Those 3 stats is huge when it comes to play the main tank role. You need to be able to take hits and hold agro. On HNM, you won't hit for jack anyways, so dex isn't really an issue there. The extra enmity comes handy when you only rely on ja and flash to hold agro.

Now, let's talk about hp. The true down side about Adaman gear is the hp lose. You will gain 30 mp but you'll lose 46hp. How to counter it? You just have to use hp gear rather than agi on earring slots or any other you can think of. I am really lucky that CKD got me a Cassie earring. It's 50mp->hp conversion. It basically makes up my hp lose by using the adaman armor. I'd suggest use pigeon earrings or +1 if you decide to switch to Adaman until you can get a cassie earring. I use Cassie earring + pigeon earring when tanking HNM, Cassie earring and Knight's earring in xp pt for extra VIT.

Now, back to the original question:
Is it worth it? Yes
Is it necessary? Sorta
Do you must have it? No
I wouldn't say Adaman is a must have when you are in xp pt. But if you plan to be the main tank for a HNM LS, it's really good to have due to the Enmity, DEF, and VIT gain. I also use Mermaid's Ring when I can't use Bomb queen ring or Jelly Ring. enmity+2 on the Mermaid's Ring.

Thanks for all that Peejo! :D

Since, I'm probably going to have to buy the pieces in bits, is there any particular order you suggest I should buy them in? That is, to balance out that stats I'm getting from an AF/Adman mix.

I guess I need to start looking into new earrings too now that you mention it, I've been using the Drone Earrings ever since I could afford them. I was always pretty pissed about not buying one of those Latent Effect VIT earrings before someone found out about the Subjob Latent. They were like 5k each then... ><

Unfortunately, I don't expect to see myself with the luxuries of Ex equip like Bomb Queen Ring, Cassie Earring, Joyeuse, etc for a long time, my LS is nowhere near equipped to fight for such things, just mostly friends, I'm the highest level too, heh. I only just about managed to convince my perm pt to help camp Jelly Ring for me, however, after 3-4 hours of killing Mousse and no pop, everyone sorta gave up, and I never got it. (Was like 4AM for me too)

I figured I could make lots of money by convincing friends to work on a gil pooling avatar farming method. If you pool avatar gil you can make 60k per avatar per day, and just killing the 3 easy to reach ones thats 180k/day for about 1-1.5 hours work, of course I would return the favor some day.

At our level, I really don't feel the latent effect earring is necessary. You will get plenty of VIT once you switch to Adaman armor. Jelly ring ph is doable with 74pld+whm. We took down the Sewyer Syrup with 74pld, 74whm (deleveled due to a bad agro /laf), and 75blm. Emerlin also did his with only 4 ppl.

Here's the break down of 2 set of armor, you can decide which piece is probably the best to get first:

Adaman
Body DEF 52 MP+8 VIT+4 MND+4 Enmity+3
Head DEF28 HP+12 MP+12 VIT+3 Evasion-3 Enmity+2
Hands DEF20 MP+10 VIT+3 AGI-1 INT-1 Enmity+2
Legs DEF41 VIT+3 INT-3 Evasion-1 Enmity+3
Feet DEF17 HP+15 VIT+1 AGI-1 Enmity+1
Total DEF158 HP27 MP30 VIT14 MND4 Enmity11 Evasion-4 AGI-2 INT-1

Gallant
Body DEF47 HP20 4VIT Enmity2
Head DEF24 HP12 MND3
Hands DEF16 HP11 DEX3 LIT10 Enmity+2
Legs DEF34 HP15 AGI3 Enmity+2
Feet DEF14 HP15
Total DEF135 HP73 VIT4 MDN3 DEX3 AGI3 Enmity+8

I probably would go with head - legs - body - hand - feet in that order.
However, consider we will be doing Dynamis-Bastok and Dynamis-Sandoria in the near future, you might want to hold on the purchase on head and hands pieces.

Ooo, the Valor gear, I had forgotten to throw that into the equasion. Which hopefully we can all be wearing after many Dynamis runs. ^^

Valor Leggings Lv71 DEF:19 HP+18 MND+3 Enmity+1 Enhances "Sentinel" effect (Dynamis - Windurst)
Valor Gauntlets Lv72 DEF:22 HP+16 VIT+5 Enmity+3 Enhances "Shield Bash" effect (Dynamis - San d'Oria)
Valor Coronet Lv73 DEF:28 HP+18 Enmity+3 Healing Magic skill+10 Enhances "Rampart" effect (Dynamis - Bastok)
Valor Breeches Lv74 DEF:43 HP+20 STR+4 Enmity+3 Spell interruption rate 10% down (Dynamis - Beaucedine )
Valor Surcoat Lv75 DEF:55 HP+23 DEX+3 Enmity+4 Enhances "Cover ability" effect (Dynamis - Xarcabard)

Valor Gear - DEF:167 HP+95 Enmity+14 MND/DEX+3 STR+4

The Valor gear does have more DEF, HP, and Enmity total than Adaman does. But lacks in the VIT department by about 10VIT, sacrifising it to attempt to balance out other lacking stats like DEX/STR.

I guess that makes Adaman the HNM tankers choice, which the Valor (more difficult to obtain, however) better for pretty much everything else?

Good call Peejo.

Sorry, I had to say that, lol. I knew I had a high lot (and I was getting numberous tells about it, luckily all nice ones, lol) but I didn't realise I had it until much later, because it was during that huge train near the Bastok Markets zoneline.

Tbh, I spent most of the time worrying I might get some negative vibes from winning it from people. Especially after seeing all the negativity from when Mrukk had winning lot on BLM AF2 (I still dunno what to say about that.)

You can wear it, so it's not a huge deal even though I wish it was me who won it but anyways gratz. Mrukk is lvl 65 which is a long way until he can wear it. Xp pass lvl 70 is hard as hell if you rely on lfg daily. Some classes even harder than the other. Let's wait and see the new rules, hopefully there will be some level restriction.

I think it just sucks that we got so much SMN AF2 and nobody who needed it. If theres any AF we want a lot to drop of (other than our own :P) its the jobs like RDM who have a large number of people on board.

We got at least 3-4 of that SMN AF, it's funny at first, but it realy sucks for people who don't even get a chance at their AF because it doesnt drop.

So...basically what you are saying, is that with Adaman....I will get 30 MP....? hmm, I think I can handle that, Adaman can only help me maintain that I am the best PLD out there ;) no offense to any present of course. Base Vit of 74 atm, and only lvl 59, plus I have almost 1400 HP.....I think I will make a good damage taker.....eventually. Basically what I just said in my ramblings was that if your a Galka, go with Adaman.

depends really ice shield or koening are good. Koening is for more def and +hate but Ice adds some good def also gives you ice spikes whichs can paraylze mobs hit time they hit you.
