Even when you DESCRIBE Christianity you bring out its overall purpose...what it was created for (and if not that, what it was immediately brought into practice to do) control the masses. Scare them into obeying the laws. Pay off holy leaders to shorten their time in pergatory (wait that's not one of them!!!)


edit: the reason why I am athiest is because my family is atheist. They're all extremely intellectual, and frankly, that just don't jive with the big man.

Question for heaven bound christians:

In heaven do you get to enjoy all the things that you were forbidden to do on earth? If you're supposedly completely clean of heart, then you'd still be the same boring, gay-bashing douchebag in heaven as you were on earth

As one of the few individuals who as actually spent time researching this (and you others who did know who you are ), my conclusion is that there is an eternal God transcending physicality to which the origin of matter and energy can be attributed. Science is limited in what it can explain, for it deals only with the material dimension. Frankly, I don't know if we humans will EVER be able to comprehend our origins. IMHO, this will forever be a topic of metaphysical (not scientific) debate. I personally have an attachment to the intelligent design theory, as it seems to be the only one which shows promise.

Can we not have a decent discussion without all the flaming and trolling I see!?

Is heaven supposed to be a perfect place? if so won't it get very boring after a whiel?

Sorry, I forgot that according to the bible we were all just spirits at first and the first 'men' were Adam and Eve. And their fate was properly directed due to their actions in the Garden of Eden or whatever. So, to clarify my above question. What happened to all those people who died before Adam and Eve(assuming that scientific proof of our ancestral evolution is true)? What happened to the Pre-Adamic men, common to Creationism literature, that died? I believe in Evolution so it's difficult for me to wrap my head around the thought of 'spawning' from spirits. Also, is the Bible's Eve the same Eve as 'the out of Africa' theories Eve?

In my idea of Heaven and Hell all living and non-living constructs of matter have a shot at 'Heaven and Hell'. Assuming all matter in the Universe is divided equally into + and - particles where + = Heaven and - = Hell. Thus we could say that every human is currently living in Heaven and Hell at the same time. So, upon death, it totally depends on how those particles of matter and energy that were you are redistributed into the surrounding system. If any of the matter or energy that was me went into helping a tree or flower or something get nutrients to grow, etc...that would be Heaven for me, but if I went on to contaminate something by my decaying corpse actually polluting the surrounding system and preventing future growth, perhaps that is my Hell. But who knows for sure what happens? None of us.

Yes, i'll admit that I never have read a bible in it's entirety, but I have always meant to, but just never made the time for it...so many other good books to read I guess with a lot more answers to my questions. However I was raised Christian but stopped going to church sometime after my first communion. This is probably why I haven't ruled out 'a god like thing' from my thoughts regarding this issue. It's probably the same thing as your 'God' just described with different imagery.

Anyways, I will read the bible eventually and I will always keep an open mind to all it's ideas, stories and indoctrinations. And, I hope to be able to value the knowledge I will attain from it as much as I do my own knowledge and beliefs thus far. Could you say you'd do the same for me?

I'm not trying to offend anyone and I'm sorry if I do, I just think it's really wrong to condemn people for their beliefs(or non-belief).Thanks for the Bible link.

No intelligent reader of the Bible will take anything from the Early First Testament books seriously. I personally believe they were just stories to explain "why this is this" to ignorant farmers who if they were explained the divine reasons for such things(which we can reason today through revelation) wouldn't understand and would be turned away.

It has to come to attacks. People are so involved into religions that when they believe they are right(when they "KNOW" they are right) they get hostile at opposition. Fact.

I'm going to end on the note I mentioned earlier:

Pick up and read C.S. Lewis: Mere Christianity. It's a very good book for people of all faith, and the first 2 sections aren't aggressive in christianity, but philosophy.

There is such a religion!!! It has like 1300 members worldwide. It's based in some Middle Eastern country (Turkey??). It believes that all the dieties are lower powers to an all mighty power that controls ALL of them.

At least they're trying to unite!
