maybe the next new expansion is about a lost city with advance technology isn't it true that FFXI is by far one of the most backward world in all FF? there isn't even a laser or machine gun, no AI robot, nothing... (... must be star wars in my head)

By the way, Sony never had "rights" to Final Fantasy. They owned (or still own? Not sure) a sizable portion of SE stock, somewhere between 7 and 10 percent of the company at one point, but obviously, the franchise has branched out of late (Crystal Chronicles on GC, and now FFXI on 360). However, the tech demo in question was probably an early build of the Xbox 360 RPG being made by Mistwalker, a new studio headed by SE's former employer and FF-lead-man Hironobu Sakaguchi.
