Currently I got this as my main PC specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1.92GHZ
1GB RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb

I havent been up to date in a long time with PC Hardware as I use to be. Can anyone guide me an a direction towards a new Video card and processor? I am not sure if I want to get another ATI card, as I used to have an nVidia and it worked very well. Also I think I might have to get a new mobo since I'm not sure which processors are compatible with mine. Any suggestions?

What motherboard do you have right now?

What kind of RAM is it?

i prefer the Nvidia cards, and i prefer the AGP slot over the PCI slot for a graphics card.

If i were you i would just goto a website like tigerdirect and pick out all the components you want, Usually the mobos will have a description with them that tell you what CPU they are compatible with.

Ok so I was looking around at a new Mobo+CPU combo and I came across this, which I will probably get.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... No=1490934

The only thing is, this is an SLI Mobo which uses PCI-Express slots, and my current video card uses AGP. So I either get just the processor and a different mobo that supports AGP, or get a new video card =/

I suggest that you just get a diff. mobo that supports AGP.....
The Radeon 9800 Pro with 256 MB is pretty decent card.... and I can't see anything in the future really that will tax that card (with a good CPU).

Of course unless you water your money tree regularly then go ahead... get one of the newer cards. :)

That's almost exactly what I have. Mine is the AGP version but same spec other than that. I'm not a big fan of PCIe yet simply because the drivers still suck and the card aren't really worth the money.

A 939 64 is definately the way to go though. They are fast and really good about staying cool without a big nasty HSF on it.

As for GPUs, I use a 6800 GT and freaking LOVE it. I used to be a hardcore ATI guy until I got one of these. lol
