I started playing a few months after the NA release. I wasn't going to make a character, but my husband convinced me that I would LOVE this game, he, of course was right. I made my mithra rdm and started out in Sandoria. I remember being so excited when I had enough gil to buy a bronze harness. Then, being even more excited when I realized I could exchange CP for gears.
I remember joining alliances to get subjob items in valkurm. I also lvled 3 jobs to 25 before getting the kazham keys, which I also joined alliances for. I tried soloing the mobs for the keys as lvl 25 rdm and ended up deleveling, I was so pissed off that I didn't touch the job again until recently.
I soloed all my teleport quests. I didn't have teleport-yhoat til I was like lvl 63 or something lol, damn, that elshimo marble sucked. I joined alliances most for of my LB1 items, but lotted horribly, so Yuusho helped me out because he felt sorry for me being lvl 50 for like 845793874593 months. I got lucky with most of my whm af. I got CN coffer key in an xp pt and the coffer spawned in our camp a few hours later. For my hat:

Movien>> Fuck! Hurry! I'm lvling bst and one just dropped! I didn't make it there in time for that key, but he stayed until another one dropped, lol. FN <3 Movien lmao
Estarial somehow convinced Diablomo to help me get my bell for my AF body and Bobaboba and some others from Sentinels who were doing a bcnm at Fei Yin helped me kill the NM later that afternoon. Because I leveled slowly, toward later levels it got easier to find people who could help me out, but I miss the old times and the newbie alliances.

yea i kinda have your attitude ruby, rather solo shit than have to rely on others, only it gets hella boring so i drag a thf down with me sometimes lol, but i soloed most all of my relaxing earring and half of my 2 obis. also do things like solo pop vv too, for kindreds =p

i started at NA release too. No one remembers me from back then either though

I started a few months after release as Aesk. I remember Fattino helped me with my SJ items, he was PLD45 or something. he had a brigadine on. And since then hes helped me with the majority of stuff that I've needed. I remember leveling the Katariana like 5 different times in the dunes as BLM. I got tricked into lvling BRD by Fattino's gf at the time, Keysa. She promised me i'd be rich. and then once I got to BRD45 I made Hobbes and vowed never to lvl brd again... I lvled PLD because Fattino was just so cool. At PLD61, I went back to BRD.

i remember valkrum dunes pts w/o PLs, having to lv a job 65ish+ to get avatars, when being NA wasnt a bad thing, when a lv 57 nin DIDNT have a freakin scorp harness, and finally when ppl farmed and worked for gil instead of... ==Fuck wads casino==

i dont like bothering ppl for raises if i die soloing. like last night i died as ninja and didnt wanna make ppl run up to raise me unless it was on the way to xp. (thats prolly coming from being a 75 whm)

I don't know yarr at all. However, based on the screenshots with text, as well as his replies to threads... he reminds me of my dad (except much sexier and much meaner).

He's constantly referring to things as "back then", using phrases like "we had it so much harder" in practically all of these kind of threads and in his screenshots, and also seemed like a really nice guy to everyone he talked to in those sceenshots. In response to forum posts now, he seems kind of mean and condescending lol.

This is all just based on forum posts and sceenshots though.

. . . and yeah, it took a month get all of my AF for my first job. I soloed all of the AF for my second job.

edit: Casinos are the worst thing to have ever happened to FFXI. I remember starting out and there were none at all. Then one day I logged on and they just started appearing everywhere. I remember the first casino (it was in Bastok) being Gandalv and adding him to my blacklist almost immediatley.

I remember logging in on my first day ppl were running around with pumpkin heads and I had no idea what was going on. Shortly after I found the JPs had finished up their Halloween festival that NAs missed out on. I completed the Adventurers' Coupon and thought I was rolling in cash (boy was I wrong.) I met my first friend, a mithra named Darkwolf, and we talked about our aspirations of what we wanted to be. I added him to my Friend's List and shortly after a week he never logged in. As I leveled I came across new friends, and aspired to be a Dark Knight. I got my first (and pretty much my only LS Avagrant) in Qufim Island where I met some long time friends (Ineptvagrant, Grimfandango, Ydoj, Dykota,Selrah, and Weedman--many of whom disappeared.). Of those SS I remember seeing lakeoffire and a few others.

I still to this day rock the old-school beliefs. I hate casinos, I hate PLs, I hate asking for help. Raises in the dunes is a waste of time, and believe that ppl nowadays are spoiled when it comes to subjob items, LB1 items and LB2 help. I solo'd my LB3 never asking for guides and it was straight fun killing myself trying to find those crests. Those things were the worst I remember having to spend hours waiting for hta tdamn papryus to drop.

Yea only thing I do miss though is seeing the Nook & Snook.

Edit: Also craft a shitload and farmed for decent gear back in the day when i was mnk28 no SJ with all beetle+1 gear i was so happy! and had 60k on me!!

That dude must have been arrested in Arizona with all the shit he used to talk about with regards to smoking and selling Weed. That was the good ole days. Trying to make it to Jueno as a 18 whm on foot...running from everything...haha.

I remember running afoot solo as a 20 WAR. Then doing the choco quest took a full day I would log off and on every hour. He probably did get arrested.. I miss the weed..
