Ok, thus far the biggest outcry about RNG nerf has been longer Kirin fights. I believe the popular strategy on Kirin has been kiting, kill all summons then start throwing RNG/SMN/BLM (will resist often) at him, while continuing the kiting.

Kiting was once part of the solution but with the nerf it becomes part of the problem so why not find a way to tank it after killing 4 summon lesser gods?

Yes, Stonega 4 is a pain but how about testing BRD's Earth Carol togather with Stonra to see how much melees/tanks can resist the AoE and survivability? I just find it hard to understand why people can find a way to straight tank Tiamet that they can't do the same for a much weaker Kirin.

I think better tactics and team-effort is more important than people just quitting their jobs because they can't no longer be top DD.

Please Discuss.

Who are you? :P Nice first post anyway.

I agree with you about that, there is probably a way to kill it without kiting or another method that could be as efficient as rng one. Problem is people arent willing to screw around to find something new in those fight since there is a lot of money work involved to get all those seal. I think that's why ppl play it safe and reuse same method.

If you've ever had a tank bound, you'll know that they do not last very long vs Kirin's WS spam. Kirin has an infinate amount of TP and will literally keep using TP after TP after TP, with the occasional spell and rarely any attacks inbetween.

If you want to tank him straight up, you need to be able to survive those TP moves, which believe me is a bigger problem thatn worrying about Stonega IV.

Kirin's TP Moves:

- Great Sandstorm: 100-800 damage random. Additional "Blind" effect.
- Great Whirlwind: 100-800 damage random. Additional "Choke" effect.
- Deadly Hold: 200-1600 damage random. Blinkable.
- Tail Swing: 200-300 damage. Additional "Bind" effect. Blinkable.
- Tail Smash: 300-400 damage. Assitional "Bind" effect. Blinkable.

Kirin's Magic:

- Rasp: Minimal damage over time.
- Quake: 1000-1500 damage. Long cast time.
- Stone V: 1500-1800 damage.
- Stonega IV: 800-1800 damage. Dependant on number of targets hit.

Trust me, the big problem here are the TP moves he spams. He can flatten a tank in 10 seconds even with multiple WHM spamming Cure IV-V on them.

I leave in an ideal world where, all mobs have multiple ways to defeat them. I would love to go kill the Dynamis Lord without multiple RDM/DRK.

I would love to say my PLD is the uber tank and he can take the dmg that Kirin can dish out without kiting. This would require an tank that can make the most of the damage dealt to him.

Problems I see:

#1 Assuming your not kiting, all melee are on top of Kirin to get as much damage done as fast as possible. They are open for all AOE and of course Stonega IV. For the most part they were anways.

#2: That pld needs tons of HP. The PLD can take at least one hit, but can they take more then two? Lets says we have 2 PLD that are suitibly equipped. They would need to be able to survve at least 2 hits. Hate could be bouned to the the other PLD. Ninja sub would help since it would cut the amount of casting needed. As mentioned Earth Carol and Stonera would be a must for the remaining people. A Summoner or two with different buffs would also help the situation. Ketrebu, when your tanking Kirin, how much %damage reduction equipment do you have equiped and how much does it help? %50 dmg reduction off 800 is a whole lot,, and could be a life saver. Not to mention, you are going to keep more hate since hate loss is directly related to how much dmg you take.

#3 Emniity would play a major role in the fight. With the WHMs casting Cure V => Cure IV, you would see a large hate build up. Even when multiple WHM are available, the Curaga to counterackt Stonega would be expensive.

I'm from Hades...don't remember how I come across this LS site/forum, but I'm posting here because I can't find any information on any HNMLS or any server ever bother tanking Kirin straight up. I'm seeking opinions and solutions.

Frankly, I'm in favor of tanking it straight up, and is hoping, I can find ideas to help convince my HNMLs to try it out.

Let's face it no one likes 2hr long fights, but that is not to say, I don't enjoy a well-deviced strategy/tactical fight. I think there are potentially good benefits for keeping Kirin stationary instead of kiting.

a) RNG will have a chance to find their new "sweet spot", instead of shouting on kiting tanks to stop running so they can WS/Barrage on him, pull hate then get kill. Ultimately, the true test for RNGs would be to see if "sweet spot" continues to deal only half the dmg or less compare to what they are used to.

b) This gives other melees a chance to DD. Do anyone here even wondering what other DDs can do?

I did like 300 dmg sneak attack retribution on kirin as BLM/THF i think haha. But yeah steelcyclone and spiral hell with martial weapons probably owns him.

see? need a setup like Fattino and Me (at 75 hoho) dual tanking him, and working together. Everyone knows that cant happen, but w/e.

Anyways, I was thinking about this the other day/ This would be one of the few areas where I would be willing to use earth staff. Anyways, try out the "Titan" gear from avatars, and build up a bunch of earth resist.

I am fairly confident that the Melee we have in CKD could fuck him up. lol, dont think it would happen first try though lol. Just need people willing to experiment.

Hopefully, we will try to T2T it next time to see if it's doable :P I agree kiting is lame and should never be a solution.

The only time I meleeing Kirin was at lv 74, War/sam with sword. I was doing 40-80dmg per swing and spirith within from time to time with acc around 20-25%.
I'm pretty sure with 2axe or g.axe, merit, my new "pimped" gear and maybe sushi, I could do pretty good dmg. Problem is still hate and AoE. Zerging it would always be hard for the reason stated by other people above.
