5 billion plus people on the planet, overall quality of life (not just ours, but nature as well) suffers from our exponential growth.
death is a good, if not often necessary thing.
suicide, if successful, is only mourned by the people that know of the person that committed the act.
millions of people have no clue who this myspace kid really is, they too busy with their own life.
I like to think when people die, they go to better (or worse) places depending on their overall merit as a person.
I understand parts of Feep's emotional logic however more of me sides with Xiona. We live in a world where people, in their own personal vanity or albeit "trying to be important way", do negative things in society which garners the attention "of the masses." "The masses" now see certain things in a light where they are starting to think certain behavior is not only ok, but acceptable and tolerated in society since it gives a person notoriety. Instead of shunning and not covering these negative acts, the news covers it daily (runaway brides with book deals, sleeping with schoolkids stories, screwing over the average worker, etc.). This kid, through his negative act (whether or not it was a cry for help), got notoriety. What message does this convey to a generation that does not fully understand the repercussions of this guy? Are we going to see more of these types of suicides? He got what he wanted in the end, his death and his own goal of posting it on myspace, and for that I have the same attitude of Xiona in this case. His behavior should not be tolerated nor condoned. I always told myself if I was gonna commit suicide I'd do it in a more constructive way anyway (robbing a bank or something) so if I was successful at it, I'd probably be less inclined to follow through. That last sentence was a joke. However, I'm for making the world a better place and doing something with my own life to do so. Making the world better would be to forget about this guy's death, and moreover remember the good, productive, positive work he did with his life (should you choose to be involved enough to want to know him). His myspace suicide thing was in no way a good nor positive thing, however, perhaps some good and positive things such as this discussion can come from it.
