You know, the entire reason I logged in was to see if anyon had ideas about parts...
I am rebuilding and entire new machine as well with all this:
If anyone can give me a heads up on any of the products and their thoughts, that would be greatly appreciated...
CPU
At first I was told to go AMD, but then a friend who plays FFXI recommended Intel. Said it was cheaper, runs just as good and actually has an auto-off feature if it gets too hot, which is definitely something I want.
That particular one is a Intel Pentium D 935 Presler 3.2GHz 2 x 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor Dual-Core
Definitely think I want to go Dual-Core as I actually run 2-3 FFXI instances sometimes and want to have FFXI on one monitor and WoW on the other.
I don't know much about a lot of this stuff, just basics but I am split between two Mobos... Both Asus, though, and I want to try Asus as I think as my last was an MSI.
This one, though, if you read the reviews, says their might be a problem with the CPU and this mother board and something bout Flash Bios.
WTF Flash Bios? ANyone want to eloborate on what the person is saying the problem might be and if I should try this one or not?
ASUS P5LD2 LGA 775 Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard (the above link)
Or just go with
this one here.
Cheaper, not sure if it's as good. Any thoughts?
ASUS P5NSLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI Intel Edition ATX Intel (above link)
The memory I am getting. Might research a bit more to see if any other brads are a bit cheaper, but I felt this was a good deal.
OCZ S.O.E 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel
Video Card
This one is a bit better that the lower of the same model. If I send in the rebate, it's actually cheaper.
Can anyone honestly say if this is too much or not? I mean, the entire purpose of the computer is to be a gaming computer with great perfermance on most games, imaging, rendering, etc... I don't want to half ass it, but I don't know where to draw the line @ too much or not enough.
EVGA 512-P2-N635-AR GeForce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO
Case, there's no talking me out of this one. :p
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Power supply.
Since it's only ten dollars more than the 550, figured I might as well get it.
Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W Power Supply with Three 12V Rails 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, FCC, TUV, CE, C-tick, CCC, CB
and this monitor: (most likely)
Yay for big screen!
All totaled it costs about 990 for the parts, 280 for monitor, not including cables and what not I should probably buy. :/
Sound good anyone? Would really like thoughts and feedback from other gamers before I hit the button.
Thanks!
EDIT: If yuo ever come here and see this Skeeter, I give your props and thanks for helping me through a lot of this today^^
