Heh, I have fond memories of how I obtained all of my gil. Around the time i got to be a 30 DRK, I started mining in Zeruhn, I figured hey, I can mine some iron and zinc and make some good cash, while somewhere while mining, it hit me, hey why don't I start smithing these copper/tin/iron, get some crafting levels, while making some cash? So, basically, this started my Smithing career, eventually, Zeruhn ran sorta dry for keeping up with cost of crystals. (Fire = 2.5k /stack at the time). So, I moved onto Gusgen by the time I hit 40 DRK, and mined the top floor only, competition was hit and miss, and I only had 4 mining points I could mine, so it was kinda slow. Basically, by the time my DRK hit 55, my smithing was already 60, and I had accumulated a pretty penny (Snipersx2, Valk mask, all the "Good" gear for a 55 DRK), even though, I never had more than 500k to my name at one time heh.
During this time, I remember many fun times, mining with a friend or two, many deaths to the likes of Juggler Hecatomb, Foul Meat, and the MNK AF NM Wandering Ghost once when a group wiped - -; I can also tell you, I think I camped lizzy once (well, for one day, think i remember camping against fattino a bit and him crying that he needed the drop for someone else heh), got the boots once and i basically lived on that gil and any ore sales that didnt go to gear. I guess, you could say I was always lacking on gil heh. I can tell you though, everyone that says crafting from low levels doesnt make you money, well, is wrong. Seeing as i obviously wasnt an NM camper, I hardly farmed (I think I farmed a little silk as a 40 DRK, maybe 50k tops, i've farmed maybe 2 stacks of tree cuttings, so ive netted 100k ish from farming.
Looking back, I kinda miss the days where I would mine for 3 hours, haul back my load of ores, craft what i can, make a bit of money and go back at it again. People that buy gil, run casinos, etc, they dont have these experiences, they miss out on the actual run things of this game. Ya ya, go ahead, tell me its no fun to have to work for money in a game, to have to work for money to buy gear, craft etc. But, everytime I leveled up smithing, I felt like I accomplished something, be it only in a game, but it was still something kinda special having "earned" it. When I bought each sniper, that was yet another great accomplishment. I think I started back in march, so almost 9 months ago, with my smithing, being 90 now, I can say, I enjoyed almost every minute of my money-making (well, losing, however you put it) times in this game.
Ok ya, that was longer than I expected, but its nice being nostalgic once in a while. ; ;
