It looks like the release of WoW and EQ2 has really hurt FFXI. Gil sellers are flocking to sell their huge supply and flooding the ecom. with gil. Just in the past couple of weeks prices on uber items have almost doubled.

For example,
Emp Pin From 3xx to 5xx-6xx
Snip Rings From 3xx to 7xx
Leaping Boots From 2xx to 4xx

Hell, I bought a Brid. +1 several weeks ago for 6xx and sold it the other day for 9xx. The only good thing I noticed about the ecom. is that most of the non rare drop craftable items prices are dropping quickly. It is probably due to the fact there are now more high level na crafters.

I know it's a rush to judgement, but I blame a lot of the newer players for FFXI poor ecom. It is pretty obvious when your rank 1 lvl 25 and wearing millions of gil in items. I feel that FFXI was much better when I first started... sure NAs are a lot stronger now but back then most players did things the old fashion way. We actually played the game with no bots or purchased gil. Unlike players that buy gil, I have fond memories of how I obtained a lot of my items. I'm going to share some with you and hopefully you guys can do the same. ^^ [ If you used ur mom's visa or fish bot you can post it to ^^; ]

Refresh - I was so poor at the time I could not even afford Refresh. Everyone in my perma knew I was poor so one of the members named Jessie gave it to me as a gift.

Dispel - I was getting a lot of heat in my perma for not having dispel so I spent 1 real life week fishin for moats. My fishing skill was really low at the time so I usually avg. 1 stack an hr. 4k x 22stacks = dispel. I felt really good after I bought dispel. It felt even better when i surpised everyone with it on a beelte ^^.

Darkstaff - I heard this was a must for mages so I decided to stop at 6o to farm for it. I spent several weeks farming in Gusgen Mines for the 44ok to buy this staff. At first I kinda felt bad because I watched a lot of my friends level 5-1o levels pass me. However, I felt a lot better when I finally bought my dark staff. ^^

I can go on and on about all the hardwork I put into this game to accomplish all my goals, but I would rather hear some of your stories. ;)

All right, I'll go along with this as a fellow RDM.

Refresh- I bought the scroll at level 25. It sat in my mog house. I wanted nothing more but to XP to be able to use that scroll, (at the time I think it was like 4k or something.)

Dispel- I didn't have dispel until level 48. I was so used to partying with Alcrest everyday as a BRD I said...eh I'll get it later. Maggette and Emerlin were kind enough to buy it for me and told me to pay them back later, so I finally got it and it took a while to pay back- I finally started doing BCNM40s and paid them back and got some other stuff.

Astral Rings/Dark Staff- I used electrum until I believe 68- when I was invited to a BC70 in Qu'bia. There I managed to open my chest and get a damascus ingot for the first time, (Gotten a couple more.) So I used the 1.1 mil to buy astral rings, a dark staff and I don't remember what else.

Elemental Staves- I had purchased a couple along the way, Ice staff, Dark Staff and wind staff for maat. I went to Dynamis windurst and won a 100 piece to buy the remaining staves.

Somehow I managedto acquire enough money to buy like Godly gear for my melee jobs, (My WAR was worth about 2.5 mil when I retired it at 50.) but I don't really remember how I got the money, whoring I guess.

yeah

What a damn joke.

Seriously. The drive the price up knowing people will buy gil.

Makes things really hard for honest players like myself who rarly has over 1 mil.

I didn't even break the 1 million mark until level 65. I look around nowadays and see low level players running around with scrop. harness worth 6-7 mil. To be honest, gil farmers/sellers don't really bother me... since they don't force players to buy gil or bot. I do not see FFXI in the same light as I use to anymore. I used to be so amazed when I saw a level 75NA player. I can say I even respected them for their hard work and focus. However, that is not the case anymore. It is probably because I am pissed at all the gil buyers / botters / new faster exp system.

Yeah man i totaly Know how u mean. when i was just 60 Sam i couldn't afford Crap and i even remeber Znake farming for 1 rl month for this Haub and now ppl who just go afk and set bot up or use Real money to buy gill with is totaly sad. I remeber u put somthing up for tons of money it wouldn't sell but since ppl just bot they can just throw money out there and get it. serously i got 800k and i wanted to buy somthing nice for actuly haveing money (it;s the most i have ever had) and maybe 2 snipe rings for my melee jobs... nope 750k each... maybe clkose to haub so i can farm rest... no ... close to 2 mill... or maybe kote gloves for Sam... nope also 700+k serously this has to be stopped. Gill is turing into yen. going to be 100 mill for 1 sniper ring.

now its time for a heart warming story called "aldy you lucky ass bitch"

once upon a time there was a poor lvl 32 RDM who wanted phalanx badlly becuase of what he had heard, he camped leaping lizzy for 3 days and finally got the boots he used the money to buy phalanx. once this RDM got lvl 38 he realized how badlly he needed dispel so he began to farm but before he got past 45k (dispel was 65k at the time) a freind of his quit and surrendered his prized haubergeon to the RDM this scored the RDM around 1.8mil that he quicklly used to lvl his smithing to lvl 50 and bought dispel and all his spells to lvl 65 with, life continued on as normal untill one day the RDM was down to his last 50k he was like wtf where did it all go so he began to farm, and farm, and farm some more, he farmed 800k and bought a dark ice and light staff, then the RDM farmed a lil longer a got another 200k to hold him off, one week later SE released a new patch unlocking the "strage aparatices" the RDM was curious so he asked around and his know it all freind taragotan told him how it worked, taragotan tried the aparatice (that at the time cost around 150k per try) and got a fire cluster, the RDM decided meh what the hell so he spent his last 150k to try the aparatice on his 1st try he got a rune chopper and was the 3rd person on the server to sell it scoreing him a nice 1,000,000 gil, on his 2nd try he got an arcane flower pot that to this day sits in his mog house, then once again the RDM was running out of money lvling his smithing sub crafts (leather cloth ect ect blah blah blah)
the RDM finally got lvl 65 and started attending CKD dynamis's on his 3rd dynamis 5 minuets into the run a 100 byne bill dropped that this RDM lotted on and won, he sold this to rhinoa for 700k (check my memory on that one rhin) the RDM used this 700k that lasted him untill lvl 71 RDM along with about 10x other jobs lvl'd up some.... and just last week the RDM farmed for the first time in god knows how long, farmed up a nice 500k... and then spent it all on an appolo staff, and that RDM was called.. Alderan

This heart-warming story was brought to u by Aldy incorperated™

What sucks even worse is buying stuff legitally now, Znake farms for a month to get it at 1 mil gil, now its 2 mil gil. Those of us who don't bot things are much harder now.

ok now for my comment on gil farmers/buyers... die, its that simple but i will tell u this, i respect any low lvl player who starts playing this game and plays it legitlly by farming, and learning how to play the hard way and not buying their way into end game, i would never even consider respecting gil farmer/buyers they think that by buying all there shit that there uber, but there not i would invite a legit lvl 70 WHM with shitty equipment but awsome skill to my PTs before i'd invite a lvl 70 gil buyer WHM with nice gear, becuase very simplly put u need skill to survive in this game, not money...

This shit is why I got sick of FFXI. Too much cheating. If (or when) WoW gets hacked up, I'll leave that as well. But for now it seems fine.

Ho ho, I remember this blm in our old ls. He was stuck on limit 1 for one month and complained about it day in and day out. So one day both of us joined a paper PT and after 4hrs one paper dropped. Of course both of us lost the lot and the pt disbanded soon afterwards. After about an hour or so we managed to round up several of our ls members and headed back out to Eldieme Necropolis. We spent about more 5hrs together that nite and finally got 2 papers. Good times 8)

This is how I feel about FFXI atm too. I just have two more things I would like to do before moving on. The hardest part about moving on is the people you leave behind... :-&

Heh, I have fond memories of how I obtained all of my gil. Around the time i got to be a 30 DRK, I started mining in Zeruhn, I figured hey, I can mine some iron and zinc and make some good cash, while somewhere while mining, it hit me, hey why don't I start smithing these copper/tin/iron, get some crafting levels, while making some cash? So, basically, this started my Smithing career, eventually, Zeruhn ran sorta dry for keeping up with cost of crystals. (Fire = 2.5k /stack at the time). So, I moved onto Gusgen by the time I hit 40 DRK, and mined the top floor only, competition was hit and miss, and I only had 4 mining points I could mine, so it was kinda slow. Basically, by the time my DRK hit 55, my smithing was already 60, and I had accumulated a pretty penny (Snipersx2, Valk mask, all the "Good" gear for a 55 DRK), even though, I never had more than 500k to my name at one time heh.

During this time, I remember many fun times, mining with a friend or two, many deaths to the likes of Juggler Hecatomb, Foul Meat, and the MNK AF NM Wandering Ghost once when a group wiped - -; I can also tell you, I think I camped lizzy once (well, for one day, think i remember camping against fattino a bit and him crying that he needed the drop for someone else heh), got the boots once and i basically lived on that gil and any ore sales that didnt go to gear. I guess, you could say I was always lacking on gil heh. I can tell you though, everyone that says crafting from low levels doesnt make you money, well, is wrong. Seeing as i obviously wasnt an NM camper, I hardly farmed (I think I farmed a little silk as a 40 DRK, maybe 50k tops, i've farmed maybe 2 stacks of tree cuttings, so ive netted 100k ish from farming.

Looking back, I kinda miss the days where I would mine for 3 hours, haul back my load of ores, craft what i can, make a bit of money and go back at it again. People that buy gil, run casinos, etc, they dont have these experiences, they miss out on the actual run things of this game. Ya ya, go ahead, tell me its no fun to have to work for money in a game, to have to work for money to buy gear, craft etc. But, everytime I leveled up smithing, I felt like I accomplished something, be it only in a game, but it was still something kinda special having "earned" it. When I bought each sniper, that was yet another great accomplishment. I think I started back in march, so almost 9 months ago, with my smithing, being 90 now, I can say, I enjoyed almost every minute of my money-making (well, losing, however you put it) times in this game.

Ok ya, that was longer than I expected, but its nice being nostalgic once in a while. ; ;

People who buy gil/bot ruin the game for themselves. They can never have that feeling of acomplishment after working hard to buy that uber peice of gear and getting it. But heres my story.

lv 1
I was born during easter event so i sold eggs for a bit of money to support me.
lv 2-10 had like 4k max and i thought i had alot...
lv 32 camped lizzy. Still live on that gil... sadly

Farming really gives you a good view on the game. If you buy your gil you are just going to blow it all on a casino. If you farm it and work all day long you know where you got each one of those gils and you spend them much more sparingly.

yeah... that sucked major ass.. stuck at lv50 for like 2 month (or was it more than 2 month)? LV50 cap was so hard back then cause there weren't many high lvl NA players who couldn't help. the good news is that i got to lvl my fishing to 40 during those times and made some little pocket money with moat carps.

It's been very discouraging to come back to FFXI after 6 months and find everything has tripled and quadrupled in price.
