I haven't posted before because this has been an emotional issue for me. I started playing this game when it first came out. As I leveled war and went thru the quest to get the alternate jobs - I knew I wanted to be a ranger. I leveled war to 37, only so I could use it as a sub for ranger. I leveled Nin to 37, only so I could be a more effective ranger. I leveled woodworking to 95, so I could make my own bolts and be a more cost effective ranger. For two years, I have worked hard and LEGITIMATELY worked my way up to becoming a ranger. SE designed ranger to be uber damage at uber personal expense. I personally see the death of ranger being directly related to gil-buying/selling. SE had no intention of having everyone having the gil or incentive to work that hard for the job. Their solution - nerf. The only class that comes comparable imo to the expense is Nin.

Some say that ranger was overpowered, and maybe it was. But it also came at a great cost to the individaul who chose to level it. I wonder just how many irl dollars some people had to put into getting their ranger. As for me, well I just put alot of blood, sweat and tears into it -- so yeah this nerf hurts.

Will I be one of those now jumping on the bandwagon and quit a game that I've loved for two years? I can't answer that yet.

I didn't say I was quitting - yet. I've not given up. I'll be exploring range yet, and other jobs.

fat did you even read what i posted? i said "in an XP PT a war out damaged a rng" then i also said "only thing they shoulda changed was dmg vs lv of the mob". they never nerfed drg, they nerfed tp which killed drg using penta thrust. drg are like wars when it comes to dmg, mostly DPS. rng had good DPS on gods and such, and im not mad they lowered that. im just mad that when i shoot a gun.. a GUN at something if im right next to it... it takes 70 dmg. using rng vs genbu is really retarded even before the patch haha

i agree. When i started rng i found the job with less people playing it. I /sea all and boom 100 Rangers on and 75+ of then were below 60... then out of know where everybody is a ranger... Rng Nerf is BS... after this long break i have been on... I am not sue that i wana come back to play... been like 6 months... i have like shit for gil because i use it on ammo... Bolts,Scorps,Demon,Powder, Food etc... now that my ranger(highest job) is FUCKED UP by the nerf how can i farm productively???? If i cant freaken solo... :(

On the physics issue. Just FYI.

The force of air resistance is based on the speed of the object and it's surface area perpendicular to its motion. A typical arrow moving out of a bow is going to be FAST, along the order of 150-200 mph I figure, and consequently, the air resistance is going to be doing a HUGE number on it. If an archer is shooting from a very long distance, as in days of old in armies, then the arc can indeed help speed, but it was necessary simply because the arrow needed to be shot high to keep it flying for such a distance. For the distance in FFXI, the force of gravity will do next to nothing compared to force of air resistance, and thus, the less arc an arrow has, the faster it'll be going when it reaches it's mark.

Think about it...if you wanted to impale the crap out of someone standing ten feet from you, would you fire an arrow straight into him or aim it almost straight up into the air, so that it could fall down and hit him? Yeah. I thought so. (end of physics discussion)

My physics is rusty, and I was terrible at it, so chances are i'm wrong, but as far as I know...

It's called Archery for a reason. You're not supposed to fire on a horrizontal plane. You're supposed to fire upwards in an arc. As the arrow falls on it's verticle axis it will gain velocity. Acceleration in each axis are independant of each other, so this won't effect it's horizontal axis, thus it's velocity will be greater over time.

You're right, objects can not accelerate by themselves. One of the laws of motion. But it's not accelerating by itself, gravity is a force acting upon it.

Actually, Kaylia is right..... objects won't accelerate bythemselves.

The point at which the projectile is travelling the fastest is at the time it leaves weapon. (unless you are shooting downwards, ONLY if you shoot at any angle below horizon, will the object gain acceleration with gravity).

Shooting "upwards" at an arc like you mention, Ket, does not speed up the projectile at all, b/c the amount of speed lost in going up (objects will slow DOWN due to gravity also) is equivalent to the amount of speed gained coming back down to the same lvl. Arcing the arrow only allows it to travel a farther distance, not move faster.
